Lorenzo and Márquez collect National Sport Awards

The MotoGP World Champion chosen up the 2010 Don Felipe de Borbón prize for the best sportsperson of the year. 125cc World Champion Marc Márquez was also honoured for his sequence as the best sportsperson under 18 years of age.

In a ritual presided over by the Spanish Royal Family in the El Pardo palace on Monday, Jorge Lorenzo received the Don Felipe de Borbón prize in credit as being the best sportsperson of 2010.

The MotoGP World Champion was one of the protagonists of the ritual for the Spanish National Sports Awards 2010, held by the Sports committee and presided over by His Majesty the King of Spain, the Prince and Princess of Asturias and Princess Elena, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Sport, Jaime Lissavetsky.

In his speech address to the winners, Don Juan Carlos said: “Spanish sport is now on a clear worldwide projection beyond our borders. I want to emphasize the successes of our sportspeople as they help our country to represent itself on a global scale.”

Book alleges Alonso tried to scupper Hamilton's probability

Fernando Alonso attempted to weaken Lewis Hamilton's chances at the 2007 Hungarian Grand Prix according to a new book titled: No Angel: the Secret Life of Bernie Ecclestone.

Hamilton's acrimonious connection with Alonso while the pair were together at McLaren has been well documented, with them becoming involved in on and off-track battles. One such row broke out at the Hungaroring, when Alonso was naked of pole position after he blocked Hamilton in the pits.

Fresh details have now been free about the pair's relationship, with Tom Bowers' book claiming Alonso asked McLaren team manager Ron Dennis to make sure Hamilton's car ran out of fuel. It also claims Alonso gace Dennis an ultimatum, intimidating to supply the FIA with incriminating emails unless he was treated as McLaren's No. 1 driver ahead of the Briton.

The duo are now on divide teams as the 2011 season approaches, starting in Australia on March 25, and their rivalry is likely to have intensified following the newest revelations.

Misteri Migrasi Penyu Laut Terjawab Sudah

Sampai saat ini, bagaimana spesies seperti penyu laut dapat bermigrasi ribuan mil di lautan tanpa petunjuk apa-apa menjadi misteri besar para ilmuwan.

Sebagaimana diketahui, penyu adalah kura-kura laut. Berbeda dengan kura-kura, penyu memiliki sepasang tungkai depan sebagai kaki pendayung. Penyu laut tidak dapat menarik kepalanya ke dalam apabila merasa terancam, berbeda dengan kura-kura. Walaupun seumur hidup berkelana di dalam air, sesekali mereka tetap harus ke permukaan.

Penyu pada umumnya bermigrasi dengan jarak yang cukup jauh dengan waktu yang tidak terlalu lama. Seperti, jarak 3.000 kilometer dapat ditempuh hewan yang bernapas dengan paru-paru itu dalam waktu 58 - 73 hari.

Kini, para peneliti dari University of North Carolina yakin bahwa mereka telah menemukan jawabannya. Penyu tempayan, spesies penyu laut, dapat menentukan garis bujur dengan menggunakan dua set isyarat magnetik, seperti kompas.

Ini adalah kali pertama kemampuan tersebut ditunjukkan dalam migrasi hewan. Penelitian ini pun kemudian langsung dipublikasikan di jurnal Current Biology.

Sebelumnya, sejumlah jenis penyu diperkirakan hanya mampu menggunakan isyarat magnetik untuk menentukan lintang, dan diyakini tidak mampu mengenali garis bujur. Tapi, temuan ini mengejutkan para peneliti ketika mengembangkan suatu metode yang melibatkan kekuatan dan sudut medan magnet Bumi.

"Bagian tersulit dari navigasi terbuka di laut bebas adalah menentukan posisi bujur dan arah timur-barat," kata Nathan Putman yang bertindak sebagai kepala riset. Dikutip VIVAnews dari BBC, Jumat 25 Februari 2011.

"Membutuhkan waktu berabad-abad untuk mengetahui garis bujur dalam perjalanan panjang mereka di laut," tandasnya. Namun, bagi penyu tempayan, migrasi ini harus ditempuh ketika mereka sampai ke laut dari sarang mereka di pinggir pantai. Saat mencapai pantai, tiap penyu kecil akan melewati kursus singkat untuk berenang di laut terbuka.

Bagaimana peneliti mengetahui bahwa penyu dapat mengenali garis bujur dengan isyarat medan magnet?

Peneliti membawa sejumlah penyu tempayan yang ditangkap dari laut Florida. Mereka ditempatkan di dalam wadah air melingkar dan ditambatkan sistem pelacakan elektronik untuk memantau arah berenangnya.

Para penyu kemudian dikenakan isyarat medan magnet yang direplikasikan di dalam kolam. Kedua isyarat itu ditempatkan di dua lokasi berbeda dengan pada garis lintang yang sama, namun di garis bujur yang berbeda sepanjang rute migrasi mereka.

Penyu tempayan bereaksi untuk tiap-tiap medan magnet dan berenang ke arah yang mereka tuju. Dalam kenyataan, arah itu sesuai dengan rute migrasi yang membentuk lingkaran. Dengan demikian, para peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa penyu dapat menentukan informasi bujur menggunakan medan magnet.

Tulang itu sendiri sebenarnya elastis dan bertindak sebagai pegas yang menyimpan dan melepaskan energi saat burung mengepakkan sayapnya. Sangat sulit untuk mematahkan tulang ini jika belum dikeringkan.

Seperti dikutip dari Life Little Mysteries, 25 Februari 2011, sebelum ini ilmuwan mengira bahwa furcula merupakan tulang yang unik, yang hanya dimiliki burung.

Namun kini paleontologis memastikan, tulang ini sudah ada sejak lebih dari 150 juta tahun lalu dan tulang itu dimiliki oleh dinosaurus berkaki dua, yang memakan daging, yakni Tyrannosaurus dan Velociraptor.

Seperti diketahui, dua makhluk hidup reptil ini tidak terbang. Pada tubuh mereka, furcula kemungkinan bertindak sebagai struktur penopang saat dinosaurus itu memegang mangsanya.

Temuan ini merupakan komponen penting dari teori yang umum diterima bahwa burung dan unggas termasuk ayam kalkun merupakan keturunan dari dinosaurus seperti Tyrannosaurus.

Stoner getting into the groove with his new team

Repsol Honda new recruit Casey Stoner ran a stunning final lap to better Valentino Rossi’s best lap time around Sepang Circuit with a sensational time of 2:00.171 to top the timesheets in the MotoGP pre-season hard for a second successive day.

Covering 42 laps for the day, the 2007 world champion bettered Rossi’s time of 2:00.271, which the nine-time world champion recorded previous year on his Yamaha M1 during the last day of the second test meeting in Sepang.

Rossi, however, was not at the circuit to catch that sparkling run by the Australian as the Ducati Marlboro new recruit had skipped yesterday’s sitting due to sickness.

Day Two was also a day that the three-man Repsol Honda team sent a strong message of their meaning to wrest back the world crown as the Australian team-mates – Spaniard Dani Pedrosa and Italian Andrea Dovizioso took second and third spots correspondingly.

Pedrosa clocked the second fastest time of 2:00.229 while Divizioso came in at 2:00.531 around the 5.543km track.

“We had a really good day today. From the start I felt more comfortable with the bike again, like I unspoken the bike a little better,” said Stoner, who switched from Ducati to Honda this year.

Sepang - Honda again showed his prowess in MotoGP testing at Sepang Circuit. Trio racers from Japan's manufacturing success even occupy the three top positions.

Doctor happy with Kubica's progress

Robert Kubica is opening to get sensitivity back in his hurt hand, and is in good spirits considering the ordeal he has been through, according to one of the surgeons treating the Pole.

Hand specialist Dr Igor Rossello said he was happy with how Kubica, who has left rigorous care and started to begin the rehabilitation process, is progressing.

"He's no longer in pain and his psychological condition is pretty good," said Dr Rossello.

"He's clearly keen to start the rehabilitation work as soon as possible."

"He is doing pretty well and his situation is positive considering what he has been through."

Dr Rossello explained that the rehabilitation procedure was still at a very early stage.

"He can move his fingers somewhat and has a little bit of compassion already in his hand," he said.

"What is very significant is that there is no sign of infectivity, which is the main concern.

"He is now in his own large room so that he is as contented as possible.

"He has already started some mild hand exercises with the slight flexing of his fingers."

Kubica suffered a incomplete amputation of his right hand plus fractures to his right leg and arm in a awful rally crash in Italy earlier this month.

He may have to miss the entire 2011 season, and has been replaced at Renault by Nick Heidfeld for the period of recovery.

Dani Pedrosa Sepang Test Wallpaper

All eyes on Valentino Rossi for 2011 MotoGP period

It has been a great knowledge going from watching MotoGP on my TV on a Sunday to expenditure race days in amongst it all.

I know people get overvalued up for the new season every year but I am really eager for this movement to start. It is the last one in the 800cc group and I think it is going to be one to remember.

Of course, the big news is Valentino Rossi's move from Yamaha to the Ducati team and I stayed on after the race in Valencia to watch his first laps on board the Desmosedici at the first authorized test.

There was a lot more press reporting than usual and everyone was waiting with bated breath for the rain to ease off and for the nine-time world champion to take to the track.

There is a lot of argue about what he will do on the Ducati this year and I think it will be very difficult for him to reconstruct his sensational winning debut for Yamaha at Welkom in 2004 or the following championship crown that followed.

I certainly expect him to be winning races but, with testing and development slowed by his recovery from a shoulder injury, I think it will be a rough start to the season for "The Doctor".

But if anyone can turn it around in an instant, it is Rossi. The other riders absolutely know better than to underestimate his chances.

Dani Pedrosa: Rossi is Rossi…

Dani Pedrosa says Valentino Rossi can never be inexpensive as a title contender, despite the somewhat unpromising start to the seven-time MotoGP world champion's career as a Ducati rider.

Rossi finished the first pre-season test of 2011 in a modest 11th position overall, while Pedrosa – jointly with Honda stablmates Casey Stoner and Marco Simoncelli – have been in the middle of the main pace setters.

Despite this, Pedrosa is refusing to get rid of Rossi from the equation of title challenger, maintaining the Italian has the aptitude to turn things around in time for the start of the new season.

“The great unknown amount will perhaps be Rossi,” he said in his latest blog. “It's his first year with Ducati and in Malaysia he wasn't amongst the fastest riders. But Rossi is Rossi, and you can not at all rely on anything. Even when he's in last place on the Saturday he still has the ability to surprise.”

Additionally, Pedrosa is wary of reigning champions Yamaha, pointing out that and Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies carry on to display the most convincing race pace.

“Right now the Honda RC212V seems to be performance well. We'll see what happens when we get to the first GP of the year, because the whole thing could change there. You never know, but at the instant everything points towards a tough World Championship.

“The Yamaha continues to have a good rhythm lap upon lap. Lorenzo, as the defending Champion, is a rival to beat, and Spies had a huge season in 2010 and will certainly be better this year.”
